The [BTB] BitBar Information Thread

What Makes BitBar different than other AltCoins?

BitBar is a cryptocurrency designed to be extremely rare and thus hold a larger store of value per unit than conventional cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Litecoin.

It is based upon the Novacoin codebase which uses Scrypt as the hashing algorithm and the fast continuous exponential difficulty adjustment/reward of PPCoin. This makes it highly ASIC resistant, meaning specialist mining equipment built into chips is very costly to manufacture efficiently. (thanks mr_random)

Technical:
* Proof of Stake + Proof of Work (based off of Balthazar's Novacoin code as well as the RareCoin and Fairnova projects)
* No premine like Novacoin has been accused of having
* Dynamically adjusting difficulty and reward calculation

Psychological:
* Ultra rare
* Is the first altcoin that is trading at a higher value than BitCoin per unit (correct me if I'm wrong)
* Novel "bar" concept -- breaks from the "coin" idea. Bar concept holds meaning in people's heads as inherently more value than "coin", i.e. "gold bar" vs "gold coin"

no, its always had PoS as well as PoW mining.  Was one of the first coins after Peercoin first introduced it and almost ever PoS coin based on bitcoin to date has Peercoin code in it.

Coins kept unmoved will stake a PoS block and is intended to help secure the blockchain then having only PoW mining alone.

Its likely overdue for a update to include newer code and fixes that have come out since then.

I'm working on skins for the QT wallet.

windows QT skins:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1cnD3W8c0jtNTd0Rk5NVmdDTHM/view?usp=sharing

The skins are QT qss (stylesheets) files and can be edited so you can make your own.
I'm planning on makeing a share page on BitBar.co so users can add new skins.

For now, the best place to get the most current skins is the github source listed above.

So I've gotten a little side tracked playing Call of Duty, and have put my project of creating a block explorer aside for a while.
I do have a explorer up and running at http://btb.altcoinwarz.com:3001

It's an Iquidus explorer and it seems to work well.
Besides a fully functional block explorer, it also has top 100, network, movement and market info.

who ever has IP addresses:
77.67.46.100
71.86.84.52

please check your wallet and see if it is current against the block explorer at http://btb.altcoinwarz.com

Two wallets out there are on their own little fork - along with cryptopia.
I asked Cryptopia to place the wallet into maintenance so people won't try and do withdrawals until this is taken care of.
Unfortunately, it won't stop people from making deposits - but if they do - at least the transactions will go through once the Cryptopia wallet is back on line.

updated wallet is now read to download. - it's is an optional update.
version 0.7.5.1

Fixed the unlock to stake only, it use to let you send coins when it was set to unlock for stake only - now you have to put your password in.
also made zapwallettxes available to rpc calls - you can run it from the command line if you are using bitbard (linux stuff)
Also updated the version information so the wallet version matches the client version (it shows client version in network connections in the explorer)

also have a recent bootstrap file.
to use it - unzip it in the directory where your BitBar wallet.dat file is and start the wallet.

the links can be found at http://bitbar.co (or click the logo in your wallet) under the status tab.
or at http://altcoinwarz.com and click on the BitBar logo
