- Blockchain Updated + added info for new users - 07/10/2016
- Permanent ok-blockchain updates thread: http://okcashtalk.org/index.php/topic,14.0.html

OK Cryptocurrency Blockchain [Instant Sync]

When you load the OK Wallet for the first time it connects to the peer-to-peer network and starts to synchronize the OK blockchain.

When to use the ok-blockchain to Sync your OK wallet

The first time sync of the OK blockchain can take quite a while; sometimes up to 24 hours depending on your hardware.

With OK you can speed up this process by loading compressed backups of the OK blockchain.

Adding the current ok-blockchain to your local okcash data directory speeds up the synchronization process which will get your wallet up and running in minutes.

How to use the ok-blockchain to sync your OK wallet

1.- Close the OK Wallet and download the latest ok-blockchain.zip file from:
https://github.com/okcashpro/ok-blockchain/releases

2.- Place the ok-blockchain.zip file in the Okcash data directory, location depends on your operating system.

3.- Unzip the ok-blockchain.zip file. (includes txleveldb folder + blk0001.dat files)

4.- Start your OK Wallet and give it some minutes to finish it's first time Sync process.
(The client might be unresponsive but don’t worry - it’s just loading and verifying all the ok-blockchain data)

Okcash data directory location on different Operating Systems

Linux and IoT devices:

~/.okcash/

MacOS:

~/Library/Application Support/Okcash/

Windows:

%APPDATA%\OKCash

(This defaults to C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application data\OKCash on Windows XP and to C:\Users\YourUserName\Appdata\Roaming\OKCash on Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 10.)

New OKCash Info site and Preregistration for businesses into the OK CoinMap (orig thread): http://okcashtalk.org/index.php/topic,1900.0.html
Info:

OKYourDay.com - OK Your Day!

We are proud to present you the first real world OKCash project leaded by the German community.

www.okyourday.com will teach people very fast and shortly how to get,
use and accept OKCash as payment so that everybody will be able within minutes to be part of the OKCash experience.

The first project coming up is the OKCash Map, where you will be able to find all places to spend your OKCash to acquire goods and services around the world.

Preregistration is now open!

You can register your business under PREREGISTER and also sign up for the Newsletter (Just click on "GET NOTIFIED").

We are happy to tell you that there are already 3 different kind of businesses where you will be able to spend your OKCash.

1. Web development
2. Silver & gold store
3. LED-Lights shop that preregistered already.

The silver & gold store and the LED store are no huge stores,
but that's what we are heading for in the first place.

The marketcap is still very low so in the start it's the best to have low cost products from small stores.

This is where we are coming to the point where community can help!

In the PREREGISTER form we added a field saying "How did you find out about OKcash?" and "Referred by a community member?".

So if you start teaching small businesses about OKCash and get them interested, they can add your community name (Discord Name, maybe discord ID).

Your work will be recognized and you will get some OK for that.
Some community members said that they could help with some marketing, here is the chance!
Spreading the word is in our best interest.

I know there are a lot of great individuals here, that got the right skills to make OK the big accepted currency of the future.

In the meanwhile we are working to set up all the important tools businesses will need,
if you would like to help with this just shoot me a message:

1. Integration tools in all kind of online stores (Opencart tool already under development)

2. Android and IOS wallet (There are already set up some bounties, and don't forget to vote here of course:
    https://feedback.userreport.com/636366d1-f461-497d-9d03-0e7444115831/#idea/133464 )

3. OK-Webwallet (we will set up an bounty for that also)

4. Explaining video for businesses, how and why to accept OKCash. With voice over (Just talk to okorator or CGB if you are the man for this!)
The video will be added to the page once done.

And of course shoot us your ideas, join the project! Let's build it together, I am always happy when somebody wants to be a part of this.

Don't forget to contact Oktoshi or one of the community leaders every time you get a great idea for OKCash that you would like some help with for making it real.

Special thanks to Demartini for being part of the project and setting up the site!

PREREGISTRATION OPEN NOW. Have a great day Oktoshians!

Final steps / BTC and OK Clients

a) Go to Menu > Blockchain and Click on the Bitcoin Wallet

This will open the Bitcoin wallet with the option to select where we will be saving the BTC chain.

*For BTC the initial sync will take some days, wallets are fully usable after being fully Synchronized.

b) Always remember to make constant backups of your wallets and save them in USB or external media.

Use your Bitcoin wallet to plug HW and mine BTC, Send/Receive Bitcoin,
become a full node and support the Bitcoin network, develop new applications,
etc, the limit is only in your imagination.

Important Security Notice:
*) Remember to create a backup for your Wallets, you can use the wallets to create them and save in different folders on a USB device.
You should ALWAYS have a backup of your wallet, Pine64+, Raspberry Pi and IoT Hardware, Debian and ROKOS Software are under development hence not responsible for missuses, electrical or compatibility issues that might cause a loss of information. It is as secure as one's ability to take care for it, same as a computer, so always have a backup of your wallets on an external device.

*) Some people tend to recommend getting a 128Gb MicroSD HC (High speed) , at the same time it does work, We do not recommend this solution, as microSD cards tend to get corrupted by the number of overwrites, to ensure the best functionality and security you should use an external HDD/USB storage device to store the chain.

You can start testing and developing new integration with the Bitcoin and OK Tech for your IoT projects.

Okcash Cold Storage
New Paperwallets

One of the most popular options for keeping your Okcash safe is something called an OK paper wallet.
Here you will learn how to transfer all those digital coins into a physical paper form using just a printer.

https://okcashpro.github.io/okcash.paperwallets/

What is an OK paper wallet and why do I need one?

An Okcash wallet consists of two ‘keys’. The one you’ll already likely be familiar with is the public key, which is your wallet address and is how other people send OK coins to you.

The other part of your Okcash wallet is the private key. It is this that enables you to send OK to other people.

The combination of the recipient’s public key and your private key is what makes a cryptocurrency transaction possible.

It is important to understand that, if anyone else obtains the private key of your wallet,
they can withdraw your funds – this is why it’s absolutely essential that nobody else discovers it.

So, if you keep your coins in either an online wallet, or a hard-drive-based software wallet,
you are vulnerable to attacks by hackers or malware that can log your keystrokes.

Furthermore, a stolen PC or a hard-drive crash could also see you waving bye-bye to your digital treasure.

Used with care, a paper wallet can protect you from these possibilities.

What is an OK paper wallet?

A paper wallet is a document that contains copies of the public and private keys that make up a wallet.
Often it will have QR codes, so that you can quickly scan them and add the keys into a software wallet to make a transaction.

The benefit of a paper wallet is that the keys are not stored digitally anywhere,
and are therefore not subject to cyber-attacks or hardware failures.

The disadvantage of a paper wallet is that paper and ink can degrade,
and paper is relatively fragile – it’s definitely worth keeping well away from fire and water for obvious reasons.

Furthermore, if you lose a paper wallet, you’ll never be able to access the OK coins sent to its address.

How to create an Okcash paper wallet

Here are 10 steps needed to create an OK paper wallet:

1.- To generate a new Okcash address, open https://okcashpro.github.io/okcash.paperwallets/ in your browser.

2.- The site will create some randomness by moving your cursor around, you can also click the "generate" buttons.

3.- You will be presented with your public and private keys and their respective QR codes. Do not scan these.

4.- Click the ‘Paper wallet’ tab.

5.- Select the number of addresses to generate.

6.- If you don’t wish to keep the Okcash artwork, click the ‘Hide art?’ button.

7.- Click the ‘Generate’ button to create new wallets.

8.- Once the wallets are generated, click the ‘Print’ button to make a hard copy.

9.- Your browser will ask you to select the printer you wish to use. In the case of Google Chrome, you may also save the page as a PDF file.

10.- Make a note of the public addresses, or scan the public address QR code in your Okcash app and start depositing funds.

** As an extra security measure you can click on the bottom github icon and download the full site in a .zip file to generate your OK paper wallets locally or offline.

Talking about OkCash website, oktoshi has set up a new website backup mirror for okcash.co and there was a design update on our forum website at okcashtalk.org. Also, an easy place to follow all halving date and approximate time of okcash has been created at http://okcashblockhalf.com. One of our dev/tech, greenbigfrog, have updated all the AUR packages and desktop files for the new okcash wallet and updates that have been made recently. There’s also a simple GitHub tutorial on how to call OkCash’s API using PHP, that was made by Oktoshi.

OkCash has been officially funded to be added to the Noble mobile wallet, make sure to update your Noble wallet to be the first ones to be able to have their OK on Noble. OK also made a video about OkCash to explain how useful it can be for businesses, how to accept OkCash and the benefits for everyday people. OK have been added to BTCpop exchange, which also allows you to stake your OK on their platform, so that you don’t have to run your own wallet at home, as well as trading and other things you can learn about over there. To help spread the word and to the world the OK message, the very first OK flyer has been created by @rnz. It is small, colorful and can easily catch your eye.
OK would also like to welcome and introduce you to our new head of “Free energy research department”. Kultus is a great man that has been studying many ways to make free electricity. His main project is the Atmo motor (Atmospheric motor), which consists of harvesting the electricity that is in the air 24/7 to run itself on. You can read more about his research here.

Our 2nd birthday, which happened on the 25th of November, that was announced on thunderclap was a great success. With more than 110 people that signed in and more than 650,000 people reached. During that event, our discord channel was flooded with activity. We met new interesting people and had a great time. There was an approximate 18,000 OK that was soaked and rained throughout the day. To celebrate our birthday, Bitcoindood had an interview with Oktoshi on a few things involving OkCash including side projects and some bits of future projects. I recommend you to have a look at it. OkCash has also been added to the revex cryptocurrency and exchange review website. You can have a look at our review and read a few feedbacks here.

The OK paper wallet has been officially released on the 6th of December 2016. All wallets can be found on the website Oktoshi has created exclusively for it. A tutorial about how to import your paper wallet private key to your online wallet will be made in the following weeks of this article. Also, CGB, also known as Crypto German Bro, started a contest valued at 10,000 OK for who will upload the best Christmas themed picture with their paper wallet. You can read the details on our forum.

See you on our next DYOR community dev update! Print out your OK paper wallets, give the best present to family and friends in an eternal gift like Okcash. Have an Happy Holidays for those who celebrates it and Happy new year.
